Feb. 26, 2011. Saturday. The molecules that make up my entire fangirl self have been tingling the entire day. Wait scratch that…they’ve been tingling since I bought the tickets last December and as the months and weeks and days drew near they reached astronomical levels of “kilig”-ness. The worst was the day before the show when all I could think of was, “Are they here yet? Are they here yet? Are they here yet?” Yes, I was finally going to see Super Junior live.
I have to give props to SuJu–they were the spring board that started my entire addiction to Kpop. Actually, let’s go back even further…props to Choi Siwon for simply being a beautiful man….are you sure you’re not related to Mr. Takeshi Kaneshiro? (pardon the spazzing)
My friend Ava & I arrived at the Araneta Coliseum a little before 4:30pm. The amount of people waiting at the gates was overwhelming. All the girls came prepared with their SuJu paraphernalia: shirts, hats, posters, banners, lighted signs, blue light sticks, towels, lanyards, baller id bracelets, their gifts for the boys ..you name it & they brought it. It was also delightful to see other fans who traveled from different countries just to see the show in Manila. We even spotted a group of girls calling out the name of a Taiwanese fan & holding up a sign that bore her name–we’re guessing they arranged a meet-up at the day of the show. There was an energy in the air and we just couldn’t help being intoxicated by it. We even joked that we’re already “ahjummas” compared to the mostly tween/teen crowd….that is until we saw actual ahjummas in the audience!…with their daughters in tow!
The 3 hour show promptly began at 7pm…with Donghae being hoisted high up in the air. From then on I knew that they were going to pull out all the stops and make this show something that the fans will surely enjoy and remember for a long time. Ava, who happened to know nothing of Super Junior other than “Sorry Sorry” & “Siwon is that good looking guy from Oh My Lady!”, was immediately impressed from the get-go (yes!) and within the first hour of the show has already declared her top 4 favorites: Siwon, Donghae, Sungmin & Kyuhyun…though as the night progressed, a winner among the 4 will emerge. True to form, Ava will choose Kyuhyun, the youngest…the maknae…the “hottest baby” as her favorite SuJu member! She still can’t stop gushing how beautiful his voice is. Alright! Welcome to the dark side Ava!

Some of the songs had video presentations that went with it and in one particular video, the guys were playing basketball…and Siwon was wearing shades which made both Ava & I laugh…of course, only Siwon could get away with wearing dark glasses while playing basketball! He can pretty much do anything and not look ridiculous. The video presentation that had the guys do some action/fight sequences was pretty cool too.
Some of the things I enjoyed during the show were the boys’ introductions as they presented themselves in costumes from other countries, Heechul’s ode to Lady Gaga, the “Single Ladies” performance of Donghae, Shindong & Eunhyuk (Note to Donghae: You are one beautiful woman!), performances of “No Other”, “Bonamana”, “Don’t Don” w/ fellow labelmates TRAX, “Super Girl” and practially ALL solo performances…ok, fine..I enjoyed everything! But I think the best (and cutest!) was when they came out dressed as the most adorable veggies ever! (ok, fangirl mode starting to kick in) Again, Ava gushed about Kyuhyun the Bell Pepper and Donghae was dressed as my favorite veggie, Broccoli! And we dubbed Siwon as “the serious carrot”.

One of the things I like about them is they really interact with their crowd--always shaking hands & taking pictures with them. Too bad our seats weren't that close.

Photo as requested by my friends who weren't there. You know it wouldn't be complete without a shirtless Siwon.
Oh and at the end of the show Leetuk gave away his shirt to a lucky audience member….a grandma! (how cute!)

What else can I say? I don’t think my words could justify everything that we’ve experienced with Super Show 3. It was a really fun night…and even though a week has passed since then, Ava & I are still smiling.
